Tiivistelmä: Hankkeessa selvitettiin pilottiluonteisesti metsänomistajille suunnatun postikyselyn ja muutamalle puukaupan asiantuntijoille suunnatun puhelinhaastattelun avulla puukauppatapojen tulevaa kehitystä. Metsänomistajille suunnattu kysely toteutettiin syksyllä 2003. Puukaupan asiantuntijoiden puhelinhaastattelu suoritettiin talvella 2005. Kyselyn mukaan metsänomistajat olivat varsin tyytyväisiä käyttämiinsä puukauppatapoihin ja puukauppatavoissa ei tule tapahtumaan suuria muutoksia lähivuosina. Pientä siirtymää saattaa kuitenkin tapahtua suorasta kaupasta valtakirjakauppatapaan ja yhtiöiden puukaupan sopimusasiakkaiksi. Lisäksi pieni osa metsänomistajista on aikeissa siirtyä valtakirjakauppatavasta yhtiöiden sopimusasiakkaiksi. Siirtymien seurauksena suora kauppatapa saattaa olla vähenemässä, valtakirjakauppatapa pysymässä ennallaan ja yhtiöiden puukaupan sopimusasiakkuus pienoisessa kasvussa. Puukaupan asiantuntijoille tehdyn kyselyn tulokset ovat samansuuntaisia kuin metsänomistajien antamat vastaukset. Asiantuntijat arvioivat valtakirjakauppojen ja puukaupan asiakassopimusten joko pysyvän ennallaan tai lisääntyvän vuoteen 2010 mennessä. Suorien kauppojen asiantuntijat arvioivat vähenevän. Keskeisenä syynä puukauppatapojen kehitykseen asiantuntijat arvioivat olevan metsänomistajakunnan rakennemuutoksen. Kaikkiaan kehitys merkitsee sitä, että kilpailu metsänomistajista tulee pysymään kovana metsäyhtiöiden ja metsänhoitoyhdistysten välillä. Metsäyhtiöt tarvitsevat sopimusasiakkaita tasoittaakseen puukaupan vuotuisrytmiä ja metsänhoitoyhdistykset valtakirja-asiakkaita turvatakseen yhdistysten taloudellista tilaa.

Abstract: The paper examines by survey methods Finnish private forest owners’ (NIPFs) and roundwood market experts’ views of the development of roundwood trade practices in future. The forest owners’ data were collected by mail in autum 2003. The roundwood experts were interviewed by phone in winter 2005. According to the forest owners’ survey there are not any big changes to be expected in roundwood tradepractices in the near future. Still, some movement may been seen from direct trade to the authorized trade of private forest owners’ association and to forest industry companies’ contract customers. In addition to this, some forest owners will move from authorized trade to the forest industry companies’ contract customers. In general, the share of direct trade will diminish, authorized trade will stay unchanged and forest industry customer contracts will increase. The results of the survey of experts in roundwood markets are quite similar to the results of the survey of private forest owners. The experts assume that the share of the authorized trade and forest industry companies’ contract customers trade will stay unchanged or increase in the future. The share of direct trade is assumed to decrease. The most important reason for this development is the change in forest owners’ structure. One result of this development is that the competition for private forest owners between forest owners’ associations and forest industry companies will stay keen. Forest industry companies need contract customers to get the roundwood trade more evenly distributed during a year and forest owner associations need authorized trade to improve associations’ economic situation.
