Tiivistelmä: Biodiversiteetti- ja luonnonvarakysymykset (ml. vihreä talous ja biotalous) ovat nousseet näkyvästi esille viime aikoina. Samalla on keskusteltu luonnon monimuotoisuuteen perustuvista ekosysteemipalveluista ja niiden turvaamisesta osana ihmisten hyvinvointia. Tässä julkaisussa raportoitu Pohjois-Karjalan biosfäärialueella toteutettu työpaja tuloksineen on osa maa- ja metsätalousministeriön rahoittamaa tutkimushanketta ”Soiden ja turvemaiden ekosysteemipalvelujen arviointi ja arvottaminen (SuoEko)”. Hankkeessa on tehty uraauurtavaa selvitystä soiden ekosysteemipalvelujen tunnistamisesta ja saatu arvokasta tietoa ekosysteemipalvelujen arvioinnissa käyttökelpoisista menetelmistä.

Abstract: Biodiversity and issues related to natural resources (incl. green economy and bioeconomy) have drawn much attention in recent times. At the same time, it has been discussed about ecosystem services and related biodiversity and the need to secure them as a vital part of human well-being. This report describes the outcomes of a workshop conducted in the North Karelian biosphere area. The workshop was part of a research project “Assessment and valuation of ecosystem services in natural and managed peatland ecosystems (SuoEko)” funded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. SuoEko project was a pioneering study of identification of peatland ecosystem services, and it produced valuable information of methods applicable for the assessment of ecosystem services.
