Tiivistelmä: Tutkimuksessa tarkastellaan apteekkien sekä näiden rinnalla toimivien erillisyhtiöiden taloudellista kannattavuutta vuosina 2000–2013. Tiedot perustuvat Tilastokeskuksen tuottamaan Yritysten tilinpäätös -tilastoon. Erillisyhtiöiden lukumäärä, liikevaihto sekä henkilöstö ovat jatkaneet tasaista kasvuaan viimeisten vuosien aikana. Erillisyhtiöiden toiminta on selvästi perinteistä apteekkitoimintaa kannattavampaa eri tuotevalikoiman sekä vähäisten henkilöstökulujen seurauksena. Apteekkialaa koskevat toimenpide-ehdotusten liittyen lääketaksaan ja lääkekorvausjärjestelmään arvioidaan aiheuttavan keskivertokuluttajalle 8 prosentin kasvu lääkemenoissa. Palvelurakenteen muutospaine lisää apteekkien liikevaihtoa vuositasolla arviolta 30 miljoonaa euroa, joka vastaa 0,2 prosenttia vuoden 2011 liikevaihdosta.

Abstract: In this study we examine pharmacies in Finland and firms that operate in the same facilities (separate firm) as pharmacies in the economic context. The analysis is based on the official financial statement statistics provided by Statistics Finland and the period covers years 2000-2011. The forthcoming economic performance is evaluated for years 2012-2013. We find that the number of separate firms has increased in recent years as well as their turnover and personnel. The profitability of these firms is significantly higher than in conventional pharmacies due to product variation and low personnel costs. The whole pharmacy industry is facing changes that will influence the operating environment. As a consequence of these actions we find that drug expenses will rise approximately 8 percent for the consumer on average. In addition, we estimate that the privatization of health care services will increase the turnover of pharmacies with 30 million euros.
